About this site
Why did I make this site?
Because it’s fun, challenging, and interesting. My
old site
,
hosted on
umich servers
, needed some serious updating, too.
What’s different about this one?
A lot, actually. The biggest difference is that I actually learned
CSS
and
HTML
, the building blocks of web pages. Previously, I used
DreamWeaver
, which is, if you don’t know,
a software program that does a lot of the coding for you
.
The
code’s a lot prettier now
— that’s for sure. I hope you like the site.
How long did it take?
An embarrassingly long amount of time.
What about technical stuff?
Like I mentioned above, I got down-and-dirty with the code thanks to
Liz Castro’s
book,
HTML, XHTML, & CSS — 6th edition
. I highly recommend it.
In terms of software and other primary tools, I used basic Windows
Notepad
,
Adobe ImageReady
,
a little bit of
Photoshop
,
Acrobat
, some testing in
NVu
,
GIMP
,
Flickr
,
FileZilla
,
Google Analytics
,
Fetch
,
Yahoo Hosting
,
Firefox
,
WordPress
, and
Picasa
.
I also need to give credit to the following people:
- Stu Nicholls at
CSSPlay
for my
CSS drop-down menu
,
the opacity-driven portfolio
, and these
sweet pop up thingies
. -
RANDOMBYTE’s FAlbum
, which powers my
photobook
. -
Lokesh Dhakar’s Lightbox JS
. This is the
overlay
you see when you click on any image. - FAlbum with Lightbox2 at
GrinGod
. -
Dustin Diaz
for the
toggle javascript on background images
. -
Matthew Mullenweg’s rotate.php
, which makes it possible to randomly generate the background images. -
Semiologic’s Dofollow plugin
for Wordpress. -
Nik Iliadis’s
Vistered Little 1.6
, my Wordpress theme (though it's been modified a lot). -
Paul Pulice
and
Kyle Rademacher
for providing me with many of the images. - The
Duke Admissions
web page. It’s one of my favorite sites on the
inter-webs
.
Is there anything else?
Negative. Thanks for visiting.
Go Blue
.
